U.S. Trade Deficits and Military Power
A 2018 argument that U.S. trade deficits reflect military power and a global tributary system—not merely free trade.
Massive US trade deficits with the rest of the world are not the result of "free trade", but of the U.S. government's monopoly on military power used to extort wealth from the rest of the world.
It's a tributary system that has enriched some in the US at the great expense of the rest of the world, and has diminished our own ability to manufacture and sell physical goods globally.
