Sabbatical
After leaving Credit Coop in November last year, I decided to take a sabbatical.
This isn't my first time taking time off from work or formal education. In 2016, I took a year off to teach myself data science, and in 2021 I left my job to start a business. However, this is the first time that I've truly taken an extended break from work without a specific goal or deadline.
I decided to take a sabbatical for several reasons:
- Burnout after 3 of the most intense working years of my life.
- Lack of conviction in a specific business idea or direction to go next.
- Upcoming paternity leave for the birth of my second child.
The purpose of the sabbatical is not to take a long vacation - though travel and vacation have certainly been a part of it so far. I will consider my sabbatical a success if it leads to renewed energy, purpose, and conviction in my next big bet.
As an experiment and accountability mechanism for myself, I'll be posting at least one update, just like this one, per week for the next 6 weeks.
